Magic-themed 5K hosts its first in-person Philadelphia event since COVID-19

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Runners and walkers sporting their wizard and magical-themed gear flew through the streets of Philadelphia on Dec. 9 for the return of the in-person Wizard Run. Participants at this year’s Wizard Run started in South Philadelphia’s Navy Yard and journeyed through the 5K and one-mile routes. Awards were presented to the top male, female and non-binary finishers overall. Full results can be found here.

“Having the Wizard Run back in Philadelphia is spell-binding, and our team has had a blast being a part of making the magic happen,” said Ian Campbell, CEO at Run The Day. “The energy of our participants is unmatched, they truly bring the magic to this unique event. At the beginning of the event, all participants were given a custom wand to enhance their magical experience. At the finish line, they were awarded a custom wizard-themed medal and a butterscotch cream soda. The Cauldron Philly, Wizard Run’s 2023 title sponsor, also hosted the event’s after-party at their Philadelphia location where participants enjoyed potion making and magical cocktails.

The Wizard Run was started in 2018, with the goal of bringing a little magic into the host cities and providing a means for all magical-loving people to come together and celebrate their love of fantastical characters and stories that have captivated pop culture. During COVID-19, the Wizard Run transitioned to virtual events. The running series has been making its way back into major cities for fully in-person events. This year, the Wizard Run and its participants got to experience the return of the event in Philadelphia.

The Wizard Run continues to offer a virtual run option for participants to join in from any location they choose. Virtual participants are invited to run, jog or walk on the road, on the trail or on the treadmill. After completion of the virtual event, participants will be rewarded a custom finishers medal, wand and custom t-shirt in the color of their choice - blue, red, yellow or green.
